She is of English, Irish, Scottish and Cherokee heritage. Her given name has ancient roots and varied historical meanings. Her version is from far back in her English family tree, and pronounced “sAy-brr-äh”.
Sabira found her calling in her early teens. At age 16, she sang and played guitar with a group of talented buskers in The Gastown district of Vancouver, Canada. Always eclectic, she moved to the San Francisco bay area, began playing the banjo, and sang folk, rock, reggae, jazz and opera in various coffeehouses and nightclubs.
In San Diego, Sabira and keyboard virtuoso Ron Nathan formed the Island Fever band, and Sabira added the sparkling sound of steel pan. Island Fever became so popular that they often play 7 days a week and multiple shows on weekends. This only left time for a few recordings. The new CD will be out in 2013.
San Francisco: Sabira studied voice under the tutelage of famed classical instructor, Stewart Brady.
Palo Alto: Sabira attended numerous guitar and harmony singing workshops with renowned folksinger Carol McComb.
San Diego: Sabira had extensive vocal training with Seth Riggs techniques by Rebecca Drake, vocal coach for Hollywood stars.
Music major in college with emphasis on gospel, chorus, and solo voice.
